The 2016 Manitoba Nature Summit will be held September 16,17 & 18th at Camp Manitou which can be found at 850 Green Oaks Lane in Headingly, Manitoba. Camp Manitou is an absolute jewel. It is a chunk of wilderness that is a five minute drive from the Winnipeg city limits.
Camp Manitou is primarily a children’s camp that Manitoba Nature Summit invades for the weekend. There are two main buildings- the John Bock Centre and the Main Lodge. The “cabins” are dorm-style rooms with bunk beds, located in the wings of the Main Lodge. There are flush toilets, sinks and rustic showers. There is an area outside of the Main Lodge that is suitable for tenting and limited parking for RV’s.
The John Bock Centre and the Main Lodge are accessible. The areas around the lodge are hard packed and there is a hard packed path around the site. The archery range has a boardwalk. Some of the forested areas and the river bank are bumpy terrain and leaf covered (in September). The washrooms in the Main lodge and John Bock Centre are accessible. The showers are narrow, but walk-in. If you need more accessibility details please contact us and we can get that information for you. Also, please indicate your accessibility needs in your registration and we will let you know what we can help with and what we cannot.
Workshops are held outdoors in various locations. There are several areas that have picnic tables, two campfire locations, a field, clearings in the bush, a riverside, and a couple of roofed gathering places. I will post a few pictures here but you can also visit our facebook page to view the album – Camp Manitou-the venue.
